Description and objectives:

The autonomous factory goes beyond traditional automated and robotic factories. It requires intelligence in processes and methods, as well as distributed decision-making capability, meaning federated decision-making. All of this places the need to integrate humans at the center of this highly digitized environment, which can currently be described as a setting of high “infobesity.”

The autonomous factory is structured around knowledge of processes and the machines that execute them. Know-how must be available at the gravity centers where added value is generated: process planning, which must leverage the company’s accumulated experience in the form of procedures and hybrid physical models; exhaustive control of machines and robots; and the accumulation of information in a database of cases and quality data stored in a traceable and secure manner. Only a federated architecture can ensure increasingly unattended and faster processes, as well as guarantee the production with a mark of law that certifies its safety. Wisdom is always a mix of experience, know-how, and the ability to react to process events.

The SARA project aims to contribute to the development of a new industrial ecosystem capable of acquiring the collective knowledge currently dispersed among different people and agents in the industry and structuring it based on manufacturing traits and attributes. This will enable, through the application of generative AI, its reuse and exploitation in two areas: (i) greater autonomy of manufacturing systems and (ii) assistance for individuals in critical decision-making.
