CNC MACHINE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE ASSISTED BY AUGMENTED REALITY

Funding for applied innovation, research and knowledge transfer projects in Vocational Education and Training (VET) for 2023, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

In summary, the project focuses on transferring Augmented Reality (AR) expertise from Invelon to Vocational Education and Training (VET) centres.

The project proposes selecting operational and maintenance procedures for several CNC machines equipped with Fagor controls that can be represented through step-by-step AR guides. This knowledge transfer will contribute to improving both training quality and industrial processes.

The initiative promotes pedagogical innovation in vocational education by introducing new teaching methodologies and transforming learning processes to meet the demands of an increasingly digitalised industrial environment.

Depending on the assigned task, students will wear AR glasses, select the required work procedure, and be guided step by step through the execution of the task.

If any questions or difficulties arise, the integrated video call function enables remote assistance. Through this feature, an engineer (teacher) can provide real-time guidance to the operator (student) to help resolve the issue.

The data collected during the training sessions will be displayed on dashboards, enabling the evaluation and assessment of each student’s performance. Collaboration among several VET centres offering different training programmes will also make it possible to create a shared library of AR procedures, which will be accessible to other educational institutions within the vocational education system.
